How Can You Become a Youth Hostel Member?

Anyone can become a member with just a simple procedure. Application can be made at the nearest Youth Hostel Association office in your neighborhood. If you have been (or will be) staying in Japan for more than a year, Japan Youth Hostels, Inc. will issue its national membership card. You will be requested to present your registration card (ID) at the application counter. To those whose visit will be shorter than a year, International Hostelling Card (2,800 yen) will be issued instead.

What Do You Need to Apply for Membership?

1. ID card (e.g. registration card issued by the Japanese Government) with which your address and name can be identified.
2. Membership fee.

*240 yen postage will be charged for the application made through mail order


Membership applications can only be accepted from residential addresses inside of Japan. Those living outside of Japan can buy membership from the Youth Hostel Association of their home country, or take out Hostelling International Card on arrival at YHA office in Japan.
